First Radio Station Setup

This guide gives a practical rollout order for a first Power Studio station. Use the linked pages for the exact settings and procedures.

Goal

At the end of this path, the station should have:

  • a working database connection;
  • Power Studio installed on the first workstation;
  • audio routing tested on the real output devices;
  • a small usable library;
  • at least one Clock Format and Day Format;
  • generated playlists that have been reviewed;
  • Automation Mode and Live Assist Mode tested before real broadcast use.

Before You Start

Read Planning Your Installation and confirm:

  • the on-air computer and any production computers;
  • the database server location;
  • the shared audio storage path;
  • the audio interface or mixer driver;
  • the administrator account that will configure Power Studio.
Do not skip the test pass

Do not rely on automation until the playlist, audio routing, database connection and fallback behavior have been tested on the actual playout computer.

Setup Path

  1. Install and update Windows according to System Requirements.
  2. Install PostgreSQL using PostgreSQL Database Server.
  3. Install Power Studio using Power Studio Installation.
  4. Run the Configuration Tool and create or update the database.
  5. Configure the first workstation with First Run Checklist.
  6. Configure Audio Routing and test every player, cart and preview route.
  7. Add initial users and permissions with Users And Permissions.
  8. Import a small, known-good library with Library Import or add tracks through Asset Management.
  9. Define the first track categories in Track Categories.
  10. Create a simple Clock Format and Day Format with Format Planner.
  11. Generate and review playlists with Scheduler and Playlists.
  12. Test playout with Playout, first in a safe environment and then through the real studio route.

Acceptance Test

Before the station depends on the setup, run this test:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Start Power Studio and log in as the intended operator.
  3. Load a generated playlist.
  4. Play one item in Live Assist Mode.
  5. Switch to Automation Mode and confirm the next items start correctly.
  6. Preview a playlist item, a browser item and a Mix Editor transition.
  7. Confirm audio is heard only on the intended outputs.
  8. Stop Power Studio and start it again to confirm the configuration persists.
  9. Review logs if anything behaves differently than expected.
