Now Playing
Power Studio uses the content type of an item to decide what should happen to Now Playing metadata.
Common Behavior
Track items publish their title and artist as Now Playing information.
Jingle, Spot, Promo and Voice Track items usually do not replace the currently published music information.
Miscellaneous items can be used when the station wants generic station metadata instead of a track title.
Typical behavior:
| Content type | Now Playing behavior |
|---|---|
| Track | Sends track information to the stream, RDS, website or other output. |
| Jingle | Sends no update. |
| Spot | Sends no update. |
| Promo | Sends no update. |
| Voice Track | Sends no update. |
| Miscellaneous | Sends a generic station-specific update. |
Why This Matters
Correct content types prevent jingles, commercials and production elements from appearing as songs on websites, stream metadata, RDS or external now-playing displays.
When importing files, check the default content type. A wrong default can cause many items to publish incorrect metadata.
Audio files dragged directly into a playlist often have incomplete embedded metadata. Power Studio treats such files as Miscellaneous by default so bad metadata is not accidentally published. If the station changes the dropped-file default content type to Track, make sure operators verify title and artist before using those files on air.
