Reports And Logs

Use logs and reports to verify playlist execution, troubleshoot failures and support station administration.

Daily Checks

After unattended hours, review whether the expected playlists, macros and external sources were used. Pay extra attention to the first hour after a format change, software update or plugin change.

Useful checks include:

  • Was the expected playlist loaded?
  • Did the hour contain all fixed items?
  • Did downloaded programs or live streams become available in time?
  • Were any items skipped, missing or faded earlier than expected?
  • Did the station publish the intended Now Playing metadata?

Administrative Reports

Reports can support music review, compliance, commercial administration and technical follow-up. Keep report requirements in mind when entering track metadata. Poor metadata in the library leads to poor reports later.

For play history or copyright-related reports, verify that music tracks use accurate artist and title information and that non-music content has the correct content type.

Technical Logs

Check logs after:

  • A macro fails.
  • A live source is unavailable.
  • Audio is missing.
  • A plugin does not start.
  • A database connection fails.
  • A station computer restarts unexpectedly.

Database errors are often operational symptoms, not only technical messages. When users report a database error, check whether the network path, VPN, PostgreSQL service, firewall, database name and user permissions are still correct before changing application settings.

Power Studio records additional diagnostic information around windows being opened and closed during error reporting. Include what the operator was doing and which window was active when the error appeared, because that can help support connect the log entry to the workflow.

For support requests, include the Power Studio version, database name, affected computer, logged-in user, time of the issue and relevant log files.

When investigating a time-based problem, note the local time as shown on the on-air computer. This makes it easier to compare playlists, Windows events, plugin logs and operator reports.
